Stoops & Brosnakes
Sailin’ On, Edmonton’s first all-vegan food truck was born on the front stoop in 2007. That year, the two long hairs behind Sailin’ On, Mike Brennan and his esteemed colleague Garrett Kruger, helped initiate Corndogs on the Stoop, a semi-regular event that cooked up vegan corn dogs for friends and passers-by on the front steps of their Garneau home.
Due to high levels of stoke over the corn dogs, a seed was planted in each of them to expand into something bigger, something that brought vegan street food to the masses. In spring 2013, Sailin’ On hit the streets of Edmonton.
In its first year, Sailin’ On was included in The Tomato’s list of the “Top 100 Things to Eat in Edmonton,” and was named Avenue magazine’s runner-up “Best Food Truck.” After a successful season selling food out of the truck, Sailin’ On made one of its most popular offerings–Vegan Coconut Bacon–available for purchase at select retailers in Edmonton.
If you want to grip some delicious vegan eats for yourself, you can catch Sailin’ On downtown at lunchtime, at the 124 Street Grand Market on Thursday evenings, and at festivals and events from Folk Fest to Interstellar Rodeo. No matter where you chow down, Sailin’ On is one food truck making life better and tastier for vegans, vegetarians and meat-enjoyers alike.
